In response to community concerns and a road safety review, updated speed limits are coming to select roads in Central Saanich.

Evidence-based speed limits help protect the safety of drivers, passengers and people walking, rolling, riding and cycling.

Did you know? Collisions at 30 km/h have a 90% survival rate, compared to less than 50% at 50 km/h.

At lower speeds, drivers have more time to react, vehicles need less stopping distance and crashes have less force. Lower speeds also help create a quieter, more livable community.

Which speed limits are changing?

Upcoming changes will be shared with the community and implemented gradually across neighborhoods in Central Saanich. Enforcement will begin after new signage is installed.

Starting in late 2025, there will be lower speed limits on these sections of collector roads.

  • 30 km/h — Wallace Drive (Greig Avenue to West Saanich Road)
  • 40 km/h — Wallace Drive (West Saanich Road to Stelly's Cross Road)
  • 40 km/h — Wallace Drive (East Saanich Road to North Saanich boundary)
  • 40 km/h — Old West Saanich Road (Saanich boundary to West Saanich Road)
  • 40 km/h, with 30 km/h recommended on the hill — Tanner Road (Rodolph Road to Central Saanich Road)
